Welcome to the Commissioning Handbook for Librarians

Page history last edited by Anne Gray 2 days, 18 hours ago Saved with comment

The Commissioning Handbook aims to share resources and link to content that helps you understand:

  • what commissioning involves and the stages of the commissioning cycle;
  • key areas in which those involved in aspects of commissioning need and want information;
  • the range of information work that is currently done to support commissioning;
  • how to locate the best available evidence for commissioners including search terms and also examples of searches done & their impact.

It is a live, collaborative, work in progress, developed by information professionals across NHS England and led by SHALL.  For more information see About Us.  A powerpoint presentation, A Walk Through the Wiki, giving an overview of the development and role of the Handbook plus a quick tour of the site, can be viewed here. There is a poster describing the structure and function of the Handbook here.

Feedback needed - please complete our short survey.  The results will help us make improvements and go forward to SHALL who provide financial support for the Handbook.

Access the survey here

Supporting commissioning - we are collecting "stories" or narratives about how Library and Knowledge Services are supporting their local healthcare commissioners to enable us to learn and support each other better. We will be adding these to the Commissioning Handbook, and to help share the knowledge. If you are interested in contributing a story, download the form here or contact us and we'll send you a form.

New - updated flier on the Commissioning Handbook for you to print and share with your colleagues.

There is no need to log in to the Handbook – use the contents list in the SideBar box on the right or the Search box in the top right hand corner.

Not a librarian?

Anyone can use the Handbook but NHS staff may prefer to ask their local librarian to find information for them. Ask your question through the Ask an Expert service or ask the champion for your NHS region to direct you to your local library service.
