04  Leading the NHS; engaging with partners

Page history last edited by Sharon Riddle 1 wk ago

World class commissioners are focused on developing a vision for healthcare that is owned by the local NHS, with a strong mandate from local people and partner organisations, including local authorities. How are librarians supporting trusts in aspects of this work? Which information resources do they use to do so?

Tips on searching the web:

  • (engage* AND partner*) leadership
  • ("world class commissioning" OR wcc OR commissioning)
  • To limit to NHS papers, try combining your results with: (pct OR "primary care trust" OR nhs)
  • You can search for terms such as "board paper" / "strategy" to help to locate Trust papers

Also have a look at our summary of tips on searching the web and visit the Commissioning Specialist Library - a one-stop shop, providing timely and efficient access to high quality information resources for all those involved in commissioning.

Useful keywords for searching HMIC: partnerships; patient participation; joint working; leadership

Working with stakeholders

NHS Foundation Trusts have a duty to engage with local communities and encourage local people to become members of the organisation. Libraries can actively engage with the FT implementers for a direct connection with work to engage local communities.

Local healthcare commissioning: grassroots involvement?

Many patients feel that local healthcare commissioning, the process intended to ensure health and care services effectively meet the needs of the local population by engaging with patient representatives, is not working effectively. Real involvement: working with people to improve health services

This paper states that the NHS needs to have a better understanding of when and how it involves users and how to listen and respond to what it has heard. The guidance in this document will assist NHS leaders to be more confident in their approach to good involvement practice which will lead to better decisions being made.
